SharePoint - Error occurred in deployment step 'Recycle IIS Application Pool': The local SharePoint server is not available. Check that the server is running and connected to the SharePoint farm.

I have developed a web-part in Visual Studio 2010. I am trying to deploy it using Visual Studio IDE.

I receive an error message

Error occurred in deployment step 'Recycle IIS Application Pool': The local SharePoint server is not available. Check that the server is running and connected to the SharePoint farm.

This web-part works completely fine in my development environment but when I try to deploy in our staging SharePoint environment, it fails.

Am I doing anything wrong?

The error message clearly mentions the issue.

Make sure you are able to connect to database server. The best way to verify is to connect the SQL server using SQL Server Management Studio.

@neelee

This happens when you don't have access rights to you content database.

Do following tricks to make it working

Connect to your database server with DB Administrator credentials or as a user having DB Admin permissions.

Grant "db_owner" rights on following databases:

  • SharePoint_Config
  • SharePoint_AdminContent_00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000These zeros will be a GUID.
  • All databases of your web applications where you want to deploy your solution. These all database names will be starting with WSS_Content_*

Once you are done with permissions, try deploying your solution package.

You will get this error because sometimes Visual Studio 2010 process doesn't have enough access permissions to deploy the solution.

Make sure you are running your Visual Studio 2010 IDE as an Administrator.
