You may receive this error at the time of publishing any page in SharePoint 2010.

It requires to install "State Service" either through Config Wizard or using PowerShell.

I've used PowerShell to resolve the issue.

  1. Open PowerShell command prompt by clicking Start > AdministrativeTools > Windows PowerShell Modules
  2. Type the following command

    New-SPStateServiceDatabase -Name "StateServiceDB" -DatabaseServer "DBServerName" | New-SPStateServiceApplication -Name "State Service" | New-SPStateServiceApplicationProxy -Name "State Service Proxy"-DefaultProxyGroup > $null

(Please Note : there is no line brack in command line)

if the command successfully executed. You are done.

If you feel uncomfortable using above steps, you can do the same from UI.

Follow the steps and you may get the error resolved.

  • Navigate to Central Administration > Application Management > Manage Service Applicationsand ensure State Service is started. If not, please start it.

  • Another thing is to navigate Central Administration > Application Management > Configure Service Applications Associations. In the dialog ensure that State Service is checked.
